Meet Our Pet Vets

Our pet vet team can’t wait to meet you and your new animal or long-term friend in one of our NZ pet veterinarian clinics. Hopefully we’ll see you for a routine check-up and cuddle, rather than an emergency, but your animal is in safe hands with our pet vets either way. For now, our pet veterinarians would like to take the opportunity to tell you a little bit about themselves. This way you’ll see a familiar face when you pop into one of our 16 clinics.

I graduated in 2003 from Utrecht University and worked in Holland for a couple of years. I then had my first child and shortly after we moved to NZ where I started working as a small animal vet again. After a 2 year OE in NZ we moved back to Holland but not for long! With permanent residency we moved back to NZ in November 2011 to stay. I enjoy working with both people and animals and I particularly enjoy behavioural problems in dogs and cats, and internal medicine. You can find me in the Gisborne clinic on Thursdays and Fridays. I’m married to Maarten who also works in Gisborne and together we have 3 lovely kids. They keep me entertained when I’m not at work and in my free time I enjoy running, reading and cooking.

Jane De Hamel
Vet Nurse/Receptionist

Jane grew up with all creatures great and small on a 10 acre block in the rural area of Puhoi, North of Auckland. In 2007 she headed to Otago and Southland to begin studying. In 2008 she qualified as a Rural Animal Technician and in 2009 she gained the National Diploma in Veterinary Nursing from the Southern Institute of Technology.  Jane spent a year vet nursing in Dunedin before she decided  to head North again for some warmer weather.  Jane is especially interested in animal behaviour and training and enjoys taking the Gisborne VetEnt Puppy Preschool.  She is also interested in rabbit husbandry and care. Outside of work you can find Jane playing the flute in the Gisborne Concert Band or with her Flemish Giant rabbit Harriet.
