Meet Our Pet Vets

Our pet vet team can’t wait to meet you and your new animal or long-term friend in one of our NZ pet veterinarian clinics. Hopefully we’ll see you for a routine check-up and cuddle, rather than an emergency, but your animal is in safe hands with our pet vets either way. For now, our pet veterinarians would like to take the opportunity to tell you a little bit about themselves. This way you’ll see a familiar face when you pop into one of our 16 clinics.

Anita Breyholtz
Veterinarian

Anita has been looking after our small animal patients since August 2007 and will be a very familiar face to many of our clients. Anita loves working solely with small animals as she finds it very rewarding and enjoys the interesting cases that transpire. Growing up in the capital city of Norway, Oslo, Anita was lead to veterinary medicine by her love of animals – in particular her pet rabbit – and a neighbour who was a practicing vet at the time. Wanting to combine her love of travel Anita chose to study at the St Istvan University in Budapest, Hungary and has never looked back since! When not treating your cuddly companions Anita is often found making the most of the great outdoors by snowboarding, fishing, scuba diving and tramping. Otherwise she may be at home painting and drawing or taking her well-known pet dog Bill for a run.

Anna Wallace
Clinic Coordinator - Gisborne

Anna hails from Fielding where she grew up on the family farm surrounded by cows and cats and everything in between.  In 2005 she completed her Diploma of Veterinary Nursing from Massey in Palmerston North. Anna then moved to Australia for two years where she worked in a mixed animal practice in Brisbane. To save for her big OE, Anna came home for a year and worked at Gribbles Veterinary Pathology as a lab assistant. Anna spent two years in London working as a vet nurse and travelling to eventually end up in Gisborne. Anna is especially interested in surgery and anaesthesia. Outside of work Anna enjoys road tripping around visiting friends and family and when at home can be found  laxing out with her feline friend Dexter.

Barb Kearney
Vet Nurse

I started at Central Vets in 2005 and studied Vet Nursing by distance correspondence, graduating in 2009.  I like a nice coffee and good food.  My fur family consists of one axolotyl, a duck that I hatched from an egg, 2 birds, 3 dogs, 10 cats and 16 pet sheep!!  Caring for them all takes up a lot of my spare time.  Once a week I take a pet to visit the elderly at a local rest home.  Pilates, pump, biking, swimming and walking my dogs are my favorite ways to unwind.

Becks Smith
Veterinarian

Becks joined the Central Vets team in late 2009 as a new graduate veterinarian.  Having spent her childhood in the North Island, Papua New Guinea and Dunedin she is quick to embrace new communities.  This has definitely been the case in Ranfurly where she has taken all opportunities to partake in rural life.  In her spare time Becks enjoys a wide range of sporting activities (especially skiing), socializing with friends, Young Farmers Club and training any working pups that come her way!!  Becks lives with her partner Jason and has Colin the cat and Mint the Dog keeping her busy when not at work or sporting.
